Septarian

The name 'Septarian' is derived from the Latin word 'septum', referring to its characteristic cracked appearance. Alternatively known as Dragon Stone, it was formed 50 to 70 million years ago, first by the deposition of sediments such as fine particles of minerals, sand and mud on the bottom of an ocean or lake. Over time, these sediments began to crack, and mineral-rich fluids, mainly enriched in brown aragonite, grey limestone and yellow calcite, began to seep through these cracks. This started a process of mineral deposition that created a layered or fractured appearance.
